Obituary: Cordell Hardin

A funeral service for Cordell Hardin, 62, a Carson City resident for the past 25 years, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Carson Indian Colony Gym, 2900 South Curry St. A dinner will follow the service.

A traditional funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ft. McDermitt Indian Reservation Gym in Ft. McDermitt.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Hardin died June 2, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Nevada to Ross and Christine Crutcher Hardin.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Reno.

Mr. Hardin was a professional painter. He won the 1962 National Indian Bull Riding Championship and was the oldest active bull rider in the association. He worked for the Nevada Housing Authority Association for the State of Nevada. He was a member of the National Congress of American Indians. He was a certified steeple jack, enjoyed rodeos, dancing, the outdoors, hunting and camping.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Jack and Daisy Hardin; maternal grandparents Pete and Maggie Crutcher; parents Ross and Christine Hardin; brothers Harold and Kenneth Aaron Hardin; sisters Phyllis Hardin Abel, Charlene Hardin, Delores Hardin Bradley and Joyce Hardin Masters and son Gillis Guy Hardin.

Among his survivors are his wife, Vivian Reymus of Carson City; son Edward Hardin of Reno and Carldon Hardin of Fort Washakie, Wyo. and Cordele Hardin of Phoenix, OR; daughter Edwina Hardin of Reno, Kamela Hardin of Houston, Texas and Renee Hardin Smith of Spark; brother Glenn of Twin Falls, Idaho; sisters Marlene Coffey of Reno, Caroline Raburn of Broomfield, Colo., Loretta Hardin of Phoenix, Ore., Alida Thomas of Mesa, Ariz. and Leora Greenwood of McDermitt and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at McDermitt.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Crematory and Cemetery is in charge of arrangements.
