A memorial service for Donald Gene Hanses, 65, a South Lake Tahoe resident for the past 20 years, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Theresa's Religious Center, 1117 Rufus Allen Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
Mr. Hanses died Oct. 9, 1999, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 17, 1933, in Yakima, Wash., to John and Esther Best Hanses.
He was a Jesuit scholar and studied at Carol College in Montana and Heidelburg College in Germany.
Before moving to South Lake Tahoe, he lived in Yakima.
Mr. Hanses was a cashier at Harvey's Casino. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Chicago.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-58 in the Intelligence Department in Washington, D.C.
Among his survivors are his daughter, Lori, of Carson City; sons, Daren, of Dayton and Jay, of Sparks; twin brother, Jerry, of Placerville, Calif.; brother, Frank, of Novato, Calif.; sister, Jackie, of Cameron Park, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
Cremation will be at Sierra Crematory.
John Sparks Memorial & Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements.
