Joaquin "Jack" Silva, 92, a Minden resident for the past three years, died Feb. 6, 2000, at Carson Health Care, Carson City. He was born June 16, 1907, in the Joaquin Valley of California, to Joaquin E. and Marie Silva.
Before moving to Minden, he lived in Clearlake, Calif.
Mr. Silva was supervisor of nurseries for the park department in Oakland, Calif., for more than 30 years. He was a lead man in maintenance at Harrahs at Lake Tahoe for more than 10 years. He loved bingo, reading, watching television and fishing in Hope Valley.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, 16 years ago at Lake Tahoe, four brothers and three sisters.
Among his survivors are his son, Ras Silva, of Minden and sisters, Agnes Taylor and Clara Twoto, both of South San Francisco, Calif.
A memorial service will be held in the spring in California.
Cremation will be at Fitzhenry's.
FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
