Obituary: Richard W. Stebbins

Richard W. "Dick" Stebbins, 80, a Mason Valley resident, died Oct. 7. He was born May 30, 1919, in San Jose, Calif..

He grew up in the Bay Area and attended the University of the Pacific.

After World War II, Mr. Stebbins returned to California where he opened a certified public accountant business. He also served as the city treasurer of San Carlos, Calif. In October, 1965, he moved to Mason Valley and he and his wife, Roberta, opened the first CPA practice in the valley which is being continued by Rife, Sciarani and Co.

He was very active in community affairs, among which were serving as Rotary Club president, chamber of commerce director and p[resident of the Operating Board of South Lyon Medical Center. He loved flying, especially participating in the Civil Air Patrol Search and Rescue Missions. In 1991, he was presented the Community Service Award by the Nevada Society of CPAs.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He was extremely patriotic.

Among his survivors are his wife, Roberta; children, Rick, of Los Angeles; Robin and Ted, of Bellingham, Wash., Robert and Martha, of San Francisco; Randi, of Madison, Wis. and Helen Jones, of Los Gatos, Calif. and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Walker, of Yerington.

A private memorial service was held Sunday.

Box 550, Yerington 89447.

Cremation was held at Carson Sierra Crematory.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, Yerington, is in charge of arrangements.
