Obituary: Scott Fairhurst

Scott York Fairhurst, 39, a Lake Tahoe resident, died Jan. 2, 2000. He was born to Rose Barboza and the late James A. Fairhurst III.

He graduated from Portsmouth High School and Barrington College, Barrington, R.I., majoring in biblical studies, youth ministry and psychology.

While in high school, he was a member of the marching band and was active in the drama club which led him to film roles in Hollywood, including the movie "Fame" and the television series "Murder She Wrote," among others.

He was very active in Friends Church, Portsmouth. At 13, he traveled to South America to help build a church. He traveled to Scotland and England, ministering and opening churches. At 15, he sailed to Liberia to help provide housing in a leper colony. At 16, he spent the summer in Taiwan working with youth groups in the ministry.

He was a youth minister at Peasedale Church, Peasedale, R.I.

In 1981, he was accepted to the International School of Mimedrama under the supervision of the Marcel Marceau. He was a member of the Tifobet Theater Ensemble, which led him to major theater roles in Newport, R.I. He was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and he held a Realtor license in California.

Mr. Fairhurst was the owner of Fairhurst & Neumeyer Antique Shop in Incline Village.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James A. Fairhurst IV.

Among his survivors are his wife of seven years, his parents, Rose and John Barboza, four sisters and four brothers.
