Obituary: Vern Rieger

Vern Allen Rieger, 62, a Gardnerville resident for the past seven years, died Dec. 2, 1999, at his residence. He was born Jan. 4, 1937, in Lemmon, S.D., to Adolph and Catherine Perman Rieger.

He married Janice Kawaski, Sept. 3, 1983, in Minden.

Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in the California Bay Area.

Mr. Rieger was a police officer for 23 years in Oakland, Calif. He also worked as security for the Douglas County Sheriff's Department in Minden. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and dog Dax.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Hill, in October 1999.

Among his survivors are his wife, Janice, of Gardnerville; daughters, Jeni Fritzberg, of Pittsburg, Calif. and Cheryl Tolman, of Berkeley, Calif.; sisters, Alvina Dickson, of Danville, Calif. and Velma Thompson, of Fargo, N.D., and six grandchildren.

Cremation will be at Walton's Carson Sierra Crematory with private inurnment.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary, Minden, is in charge of arrangements.
