Obituary: Warner Simon

A visitation for Warner Simon, 88, a Dayton resident for the past three months, will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Simon died May 24, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 7, 1911, in Berlin, Germany, to Otto and Elsie Wertheimer Simon.

Before moving to Dayton, he lived in Los Angeles.

Mr. Simon was director of the U.S. Welding Corp. from its inception in 1960 to 1990 and DWL task force leader for earthquake-related weld failure analysis. He was known as a pioneer in the welding industry and had many accomplishments during his career as a welding engineer. After his retirement, he developed a method of welding for steel frame buildings that were damaged during the Northridge, Calif., earthquake.

Among his survivors are his wife Ruth Warner; sons Donald of Palmdale, Calif., Edward of Fillmore, Calif., and Mark of Van Nuys, Calif.; daughters Anita Simonson of St. Paul, Minn., and Vivian Quiroz of Santa Cruz, Calif.; former wife Ruth Simon of Dayton and 21 grandchildren.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Crematory and Cemetery is in charge of arrangements.
