Obituary: Wendell D. McCurry

A memorial service for Wendell D. McCurry, 63, a Carson City resident for the past 30 years, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peters Episcopal Church.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. McCurry died Jan. 14, 2000, at his residence. He was born May 14, 1936, in Wapanucka, Okla., to Odell and Ethel Cooper McCurry.

He received a masters of civil engineering degree from Oklahoma State University.

Mr. McCurry worked for 33 years for the Department of Environmental Protection for the state of Nevada. He retired Jan. 4, which was proclaimed by Gov. Guinn as Wendell McCurry Day for his pioneering contributions to water quality in the state of Nevada.

He had been a pack leader for Cub Scouts, a troop leader for Boy Scouts, a coach for Bobby Sox, a Toastmaster and taught Sunday School. He was also involved in the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada and an Episcopalian.

He served in the U.S. Navy for three years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel.

Among his survivors are his wife of 42 years, Karen, of Carson City; sons, Douglas, of Austin, Texas, and Stephen, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; daughter, Leslie Boucher, of Reno; father, Odell, of Wapanucka; brothers, Bradford, of Fort Worth, Texas, Larry, of Dallas, Texas and Jerry, of Wapanucka; sister, Reba Colley, of Memphis, Ind., and five grandsons.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.
