A memorial service for William Warren "Bill" Watson, 69, a Washoe Valley resident for the past 41 years, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.
Mr. Watson died Dec. 9, 1999, at Washoe Medical Center. He was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Racine, Wis., to W. Warren and Mildred Johnson Watson.
He attended Fratt School, McKinley and Racine vocational schools.
He married Evelyn Doris Hadel Oct. 15, 1958, and they had recently celebrated 41 years of marriage. He and his wife played Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus for many years in the Reno and Carson City areas.
Mr. Watson retired in 1984 from the Nevada State Highway Department as a mechanical and electrical engineer. He then developed an expertise in computers and volunteered much of his time and skills to helping others. In 1991, he became president of the Reno Sparks PC Users Group. In 1994, he was listed in the International Who's Who of Professionals and awarded the 1996 Sparks Sertoma Service to Mankind Award. He was a life member of VFW Post 9211 in Reno, the Disabled American Veterans, Reno Unit 1 and AMVETS. He was a past member of the Carson City Elks Lodge and had logged more than 30,000 volunteer hours at the Reno VA Medical Center. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Germany from 1953-55.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Among his survivors are his wife, Evelyn, of Washoe Valley; sons, Bob Waterson of Reno and David Erickson, of Washoe Valley; and granddaughters, Amber and Kristen Erickson, of Washoe Valley.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
