Older mobile homes may be kept out of Lyon

YERINGTON - Lyon County commissioners will consider Thursday prohibiting mobile homes built prior to 1985 from coming into the county.

Current county code prohibits mobile homes built before 1976. Based on increased mobile home safety standards put in place in 1985, Churchill County recently adopted a similar law.

The proposal would not affect any mobile home currently in the county or any mobile home moved from one mobile zone to another within county boundaries.

The proposal also will have no bearing on the recently approved state legislation allowing manufactured homes meeting certain requirements to be placed in residential zones restricted to standard built homes.

Other agenda items include:

- Review of a petition for incorporation submitted to the county by the town of Fernley.

As a first step in Fernley's bid to become an incorporated city, the county clerk is required by state law to submit the petition to the board of commissioners for review and determination of whether there is a proper number of legal signatures on the document.

- In response to a recent presentation by Nevada State Water Planner Naomi Duerr, consideration of a possible position statement on Walker River and Walker Lake quality standards.

Duerr asked commissioners how Lyon County would like to be represented in the process of setting up a Walker River Basin Plan.
