RICHMOND, Va. - A man apparently shot and killed his ex-wife, her new husband and two children and then killed himself in a house they all shared in a Richmond suburb, police said Friday.

Authorities had not determined a specific motive. Chesterfield County Police Lt. Col. Dennis McDonald said the county had no record of domestic problems involving the family.

The victims were Tracy Lynn Wielkiewicz, 35; her children, Christina Marie Wielkiewicz, 14, and Jonathan Tucker Wielkiewicz, 8; her husband, Sean Bakhtyari, 33; and her ex-husband, Edward Joseph Wielkiewicz, 36.

Edward Wielkiewicz was Christina's father, but neither he nor Bakhtyari was Jonathan's father. Tracy Lynn Wielkiewicz and Bakhtyari were married in September, McDonald said. All three adults were unemployed.

McDonald said investigators found a semiautomatic handgun beside Edward Wielkiewicz's corpse, but he would not say how many shots had been fired. At least one of the victims had been shot several times.

None of the victims' neighbors in Chesterfield County, 10 miles west of Richmond, who were interviewed heard gunshots, police said.

McDonald said the deaths were discovered when a family member went to the house Thursday and, when no one answered the door, became concerned and climbed in through a rear window.

Neighbors said the five residents of the house kept mostly to themselves.

''They were not out of the ordinary at all,'' said neighbor Travis Whitlow. He said he often waved to them as they passed by, but never really spoke with them. The girl occasionally came by his house selling candy for various causes.
