RENO, Nev. - A police standoff with an armed man who threatened to shoot himself ended peacefully Monday after he held police at bay for more than 13 hours.

The incident began when a Washoe County sheriff's deputy pulled over the man in a Cadillac for a routine traffic stop. The suspect, Darrel Anthony Williams, took off suddenly and led officers on a chase before he was pulled over again in northeast Reno about 2 a.m. Monday.

Officers approached the vehicle, but backed off when Williams pointed a gun at his own head and barricaded himself in the car.

Finally, at about 3:30 p.m., Williams got out of the car, placed his hands over his head and surrendered peacefully.

Police said he is being charged with eluding arrest with the use of a firearm and several traffic violations.
