LAS VEGAS - Roger Hunt, a U.S. Magistrate since 1992, has been nominated by the White House to be a judge on the U.S. District Court.

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., submitted Hunt's name to the White House last December.

The White House confirmed his nomination Monday.

''Roger Hunt has done an excellent job on the bench as a federal magistrate and he will be a valuable addition to the U.S. District Court in Nevada,'' Reid said. ''I am pleased that the president has forwarded his nomination to the United States Senate and I remain optimistic that Judge Hunt will receive a hearing before the Judiciary Committee in the coming months.''

Hunt is a resident of Henderson and a fourth generation Nevadan.
