Radio Association speaks about space exploration

Sierra Intermountain Emergency Radio Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the Minden Medical Center at Ironwood Drive and Highway 395 in Minden.

Stan Brokl, N7YQ, is the guest speaker. His topic is "Deep Space Exploration and Finding Extraterrestrial Intelligence."

A former employee of Jet Propulsion Laboratories in Pasadena, Calif., Brokl was responsible for setting up the new N6V special event station during the historic Viking mission and sending the first slow scan pictures to radio amateurs around the world. During the Voyager mission to Jupiter, Saturn and beyond he operated station W6VIO. At JPL he worked for a group of scientists involved in radio and radar astronomy.

Brokl has received many awards related to amateur radio and has served as a section manager for the American Radio Relay League.
