The Retired Officers Association will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday for a dinner meeting. Featured speaker is Capt. Ray Alcorn, USN (Ret.), executive director of Nevada Office of Veterans' Services.
Alcorn is a native of Dayton and a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. He was commissioned in the United States Navy in 1962 and became a naval aviator in 1963. Nearly one quarter of Alcorn's Navy career was spent in the prisoner of war camps in North Vietnam.
He was shot down and captured while flying a combat mission on Dec. 22, 1965, and remained a prisoner of war until Feb. 12, 1973. He has been awarded many decorations.
Another guest is Ehren Miller, Carson High School senior and winner of the associations $1,000 scholarship. Ehren has received notice of his acceptance to West Point.
