Vinny Reymus buried three 3-pointers to ignite a second quarter burst that sent the Carson High School boys basketball team past Rite of Passage, 70-43, in the first round of the Rail City Classic in Sparks on Monday afternoon.
Carson led 13-8 after one quarter then proceeded to break the game open by outscoring the Raiders in the second period, 23-6, during action in Sparks High School's "Brickyard."
"It was a good game as far as everybody getting to play," said Carson coach Tom Andreasen, whose club improved its season record to 4-4.
Twelves players scored overall for the Senators, led by Reymus with 11 points and Lee Biddlecome with 10. Michael Schreiner also had eight points while Nicholas Zimmerman and Kevin Cote contributed seven each.
The Senators play today against either Hiram Johnson (Sacramento) or Elko in the quarterfinals of the four-day, 16-team tournament. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Reed High School.
Carson was coming off a 72-60 loss to Yuba City on Saturday in Yuba City's (Calif.) Mel Good Winter Classic.

Carson battled back from a slow start and then went on to cruise past Reed in opening round play of McQueen's State Farm Christmas Classic in Reno.
The Senators trailed 11-4 after one quarter but then came on strong in the second and third periods to pull away to their 10th victory in 11 games.
Steve Weyrick put in 12 points while Ben Jackson added 11 to lead a balanced offense in which 10 players contributed. Ryan Buttner also scored six points to aid an 18-9 run through the third quarter that extended Carson's lead to 44-27.
The Senators play in the semifinals today at 3:45 p.m.
FRESHMAN BOYS
Carson 81, Sparks 32
Five players scored in double figures as the Carson frosh squad opened with the State Farm Christmas Classic victory.
Casey Drews scored 15 points, whiled Jake Jacobsen added 13, Andy Bohm 11, Andy Hildebrand 11 and Edward Jaquette 10 for the Senators.
On the defensive end, Rick Correlli spearheaded a press that helped stake the Senators to a 45-10 halftime lead.
Carson (7-1) plays Reed in the semifinals today at 5:30 p.m.
