Salvation Army seeks bell ringers

The Salvation Army in Carson City and Douglas County has announced the annual Red Kettle Campaign will be staffed by volunteers this holiday season.

In years past, the Carson City Salvation Army has paid a stipend to all kettle workers. This holiday season, it will use volunteer bell ringers in order to retain more of the donated dollars.

"Using volunteers to staff red kettles will save a significant amount of money," said Lt. John Van Cleef. "This is a decision we came to with the support of our advisory board. Our goal is to help more people in more ways with the money we collect."

The money is used at Christmas and throughout the year to help needy people in Carson City and Douglas County.

"One hundred percent of every dollar raised serves The Salvation Army in this area," said Van Cleef.

The Salvation Army is now recruiting volunteer bell ringers, encouraging businesses, service groups and other clubs to use this opportunity to celebrate the holidays and give back to the community. The group donating the most hours will be awarded the annual Bell Ringer Award.

The Red Kettle Campaign begins Nov. 26, but sign-up for volunteers begins immediately. To volunteer, or for information, call 881-2324 or 887-9120.
