Sewer Plant agreement near Dayton

YERINGTON - A plan to resolve the dilemma of where to build a regional wastewater treatment plant east of Dayton has been drawn up by local developers.

Terms of the agreement would put the facility on Rolling "A" Ranch property, off of River Road.

Lyon County Commissioner will be discuss at a workshop session Thursday. The commissioners are seeking to avoid construction of small facilities within individual subdivisions and are looking to establish larger, more efficient regional facilities that will handle sewage from a broad geographical area.

The problem in establishing such a facility to serve the northeastern portion of the Dayton Valley has been in getting developers of Stanton Park Homes and Rolling "A" Ranch to come to terms on how costs associated with sewer treatment construction on a preferred site, south of Highway 50 on Rolling "A" property, should be handled.

In September, Millard Ferguson/Stanton Park Development Inc. said that after three years of waiting for a negotiation, it was time to move. The developer presented county commissioners a 90-day ultimatum and a proposal to build a regional treatment plant on 15 acres of property near V & T Way, north of Highway 50.

The Rolling "A" site is preferred since it would allow for gravity feed to the facility, cutting down on a number of lift stations that would be necessary if the facility was built north of the highway.

Other scheduled business includes:

-- Public Hearings on planning applications. Of the 16 applications, 13 concern Fernley properties, including a tentative subdivision map for Rolling Meadows Subdivision for a proposed 208 lots on about 66 acres near Jenny's Lane and a request from Crisp Development to amend the master plan from medium to high density residential on about 66 acres, also off Jenny's Lane.

-- A request from Fernley Justice of the Peace Stephan Lehman for commissioners to look into the possibility of expanding the Fernley Justice Court.

The Lyon County Commissioners meet in the Courthouse Annex, 31 South Main St., Yerington, beginning at 9 a.m. today. For information, call 577-5037 (Dayton/Silver Springs) or 463-6531..
