MINDEN - Three possible locations for a skatepark in Douglas County will be discussed Nov. 4.
The parks and recreation commission, and the county commission, which would have final authority over the skatepark site, will meet jointly for a public hearing. Potential sites are Lampe Park, Stodick Park and Ranchos Aspen Park.
County officials said neighbors to all three parks will be notified of the meeting, which will probably be held at Carson Valley Middle School in the evening. County commissioners indicated a final decision may be made.
"It's time to make a decision," said Commissioner Steve Weissinger. "We need to get this thing built."
"This could be kind of gut-wrenching for all of us, but we need to do it," added Commissioner Bernie Curtis.
Plans for a skate park have been in the works for almost four years. Money is available, but the process has been slowed by objections from residents and some park users who fear a skate park would bring noise and other nuisances.
