Carson Country high schools will be well represented when state championship week kicks off today.
The NIAA/U.S. Bank golf tournament starts its first round of play at noon at the DragonRidge Golf Club in Las Vegas. Galena's team will be competing, led by Bryson Young, who played in the U.S. Open qualifier at Genoa Lakes on Monday, and Travis Whisman. Other Galena team representatives will be Matt Kinsinger, Pat Flynn, Erik Lissy and Vann Adams.
Carson also has three players competing for the individual title. John Chirila, second in the 4A Northern Region during the regular season, will tee off along with teammates Toby Steele and Josh Bratzler.
The first tee time will be at noon at both the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. The tourney finishes up with a second round of play on Thursday.
The state softball tourney also starts today at Sunset Park in Las Vegas. Third-seeded Douglas plays at 1 p.m. against Centennial, while No. 2 Galena takes on Durango at 3 p.m. The winners of those games won't play again until 1 p.m. Thursday, while the losers play a second game at 5 p.m. today.
The baseball tournaments won't begin until Thursday, while swimming and track run on Friday and Saturday.
