Eric Raecke has submitted his resignation as manager of the Nevada Public Works Board.

Raecke has held the job since May 1995. He has directed billions of dollars in state construction projects, including the construction of the new $130 million High Desert Prison in Southern Nevada.

He said in a letter to Perry Comeaux, state director of administration and head of the Public Works Board, that he will officially leave the post Aug. 1.

"I have great confidence in both deputy managers and feel very strongly that they will make a very competent management team in the interim period between a new manager and myself," said the letter.

Jack Finn, press secretary for Gov. Kenny Guinn, said that office received the letter of resignation Wednesday. He said they have not had time to begin the process of picking a successor.

There was no indication in the resignation letter why Raecke is leaving or what he plans to do, although Finn said he understands Raecke has an offer to work in the private sector.

Raecke was unavailable for comment.
