Although April's unemployment rate was up a bit from March in Nevada, it's still well below a year ago.
The seasonally adjusted rate for the state in April was 3.8 percent, a tenth below the national average and a full percent less than in California. But that is up two-tenths from March.
State Employment, Training and Rehabilitation Director Carol Jackson said that is the rate as Nevada enters its best economic season.
"Nevada's low unemployment coupled with the coming summer season paints a rosy employment picture," she said.
In the Carson City area, the unemployment rate dropped from 6.1 percent to 4.4 percent over the past year as the Capital, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties added 2,900 more jobs to the market. There are now 52,680 people employed in the labor area.
Reno and Washoe County still reported the lowest unemployment rate at just 2.9 percent for April and 171,900 job holders.
But the state's overall rate is driven by the Las Vegas area which had 718,900 of the state's 929,800 workers and a 3.8 percent unemployment rate.
