NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. - An 18-year-old Mojave High School student has been arrested after a .25-caliber handgun was found in his backpack on the North Las Vegas campus.

District spokeswoman Mary Stanley-Larsen identified the student as John McClure.

He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center Monday on charges of carrying a concealed weapon.

Officials said that about 8:15 a.m. Monday, a female student at the high school told school police that McClure was carrying a gun and was going to harm another student.

School police spokesman Sgt. Ken Young said McClure was arrested between classes about 15 minutes later.

''It is still unclear what the exact threat was,'' Young said. ''It may have stemmed from an altercation over the weekend.''
