Supreme Court refuses to reconsider Gang decision

The Nevada Supreme Court has refused to reconsider its decision against former district judge Leonard Gang.

Gang has been trying to force the state Public Employees Retirement System to allow him to increase his future retirement benefits by making contributions now for the years he served as a district judge. The problem is that he declined to participate in PERS while on the bench form 1971-74, choosing to join a separate judicial retirement plan.

Since he was only a judge four years, he didn't qualify for the judicial retirement plan. After being hired as the lawyer for the state Judicial Discipline Commission, Gang argued he should be allowed to make retroactive contributions to the state plan for his years of service as a judge.

PERS disagreed and Gang sued. He was rejected by the lower court and by the Nevada Supreme Court last August.
