Survival clinic at Sugar Pine

Join park rangers of the Sugar Pine Point California State Park for a survival clinic and cross country trek on Saturday.


The free, 4-mile trek will begin at the park which is located 10 miles south of Tahoe City, Calif. Sugar Pine Point State Park is on S.R. 89 on the west side of Lake Tahoe.


Plan to explore the General Creek area.


This is an introduction to cross country skiing, with a two-mile ski run. Snowshoers are also welcome.


There will be emphasis on winter survival techniques. That will include a talk and the demonstration of various survival equipment needed for this time of the year.


The degree of travel difficulty is rated as "easy."


Anyone interested in the clinic is requested to meet at the campground entrance station at 10 a.m.


They are requested to bring their own cross country ski or snowshoe equipment, lunch, drinks, and to wear layered clothing for variable weather conditions.


Cross country skies or snowshoes are available for rental in either Tahoe City or Homewood.
