LAS VEGAS - Two Southern Nevada judges won confirmation Wednesday for lifetime positions on Nevada's federal bench.

The vote in the U.S. Senate comes five months after Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., recommended U.S. Magistrate Judge Roger Hunt and Henderson Justice of the Peace Kent Dawson for judgeships on the U.S. District Court.

Reid, Nevada's senior senator, said he was able to convince his colleagues in the Senate that Nevada needed more federal judges to meet the current demand.

''All along I have argued that without additional judges, Nevadans would continue to wait months or even years for their day in court, and I think that senators recognized that such a delay in justice was unacceptable and unfair,'' Reid said.

President Clinton still must give final approval to the judges.
