The University of Nevada, Reno is planning to form a Lake Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition to better inform the public on how to protect Lake Tahoe from further degradation.

The first meeting to start organizing the group is scheduled for Thursday at Kahle Community Center in Stateline.

"The purpose of the first meeting is to begin coordinating plans for our diverse environmental education programs for the spring and summer of 2000," said John Coburn, water resource specialist for the UNR Cooperative Extension. "We hope to get people working together to plan events, develop a basin-wide calendar, create a volunteer list and create a Lake Tahoe Environmental Education Web site."

The meeting is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m.
