Deputies arrested a Carson City man suspected of holding a victim at gunpoint for more than five hours Monday.

James Todd Popham, 35, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and robbery. Bail is set at $40,000.

The victim, from Dayton, told police he was sleeping on Popham's couch in a residence in the 900 block of Arrowhead Drive when Popham allegedly approached him, held a loaded gun to his head, and threatened to kill him. He allegedly robbed the victim of $35 and then told him to leave. The incident began at 12:30 p.m. and lasted until about 6 p.m., police said. It ended when Popham's brother returned to the house from work and became embroiled in an argument with Popham. When the victim was allowed to leave, he found a deputy nearby and told him of the ordeal.

After convincing Popham to surrender, deputies searched a small trash can and reportedly found a loaded handgun with the hammer cocked.
