Washoe County's Debt Management Commission voted unanimously Monday to put the $38.5 million bond issue for libraries and parks on the November ballot.
County officials say if approved by voters, the bonds would increase property taxes on a $100,000 home by $8.24 a year.
Most of the money is designated for parks, trails and open space improvements. $11.8 million would provide for open space acquisition and $2.1 million for trails. In addition, there would be $14.4 million in the bond money for parks projects including acquisition of land along the Truckee River and extension of the bike path system.
Another $10 million would build two new libraries at Spanish Springs and at the South Valley's Regional Park.
Washoe District Judge Jim Hardesty and District Attorney Dick Gammick requested their proposed $27.7 million bond to expand the courts be withdrawn. It will be modified and resubmitted at the June 9 meeting of the Debt Management Commission.
That commission must approve bond issues to make sure that, if they are imposed, they won't violate state law limiting total property taxes that can be imposed in a given jurisdiction.
