Western Nevada Community College names new academic vice president

Stanley Aman will leave his position as a dean of instruction in Alabama to come to Carson City as the new vice president of academic and student affairs at Western Nevada Community College.

"We are pleased to have someone of Dr. Aman's experience and skill on board at WNCC," said College President Carol Lucey. "He brings outstanding academic credentials and a record of achievement to our college."

Aman was one of six finalists chosen from an original field of 55 candidates nationwide. Lucey appointed him to the position and the University and Community College System of Nevada Board of Regents confirmed the appointment.

He will take over the position Aug. 1, replacing Michelle Dondero who is retiring after serving in various positions at the college for 27 years.

Aman has served in his position at Snead State College in Boaz, Alabama, for two years. He was a professor and department head for nine years at Jacksonville State University's Department of Technology in Jacksonville, Ala.

Lucey said Aman will be called upon to expand technology at the college.

Aman helped establish the Northeast Alabama Manufacturing Technology Consortium and served on the Northeast Alabama Development Forum and the Fort McClellan Reuse and Redevelopment Authority.

"His background will allow him to work with us in moving the college forward as we work to meet the needs of our community," Lucey said. "Dr. Aman will work energetically. He and his wife will be assets to Carson City as well as WNCC."

Aman, who will receive an annual salary of $109,686, holds a doctorate in vocational and adult education from Auburn University and master's and bachelor's degrees in industrial arts education.

Although Nevada will be a big change from Alabama, Aman said he is ready to make it.

"My wife, Cindy, and I are looking forward to living in Nevada and I am eager to work with the president, faculty and staff in fulfillment of the institution's mission," he said. "I want to meet the needs of the community by listening to our customers as they tell us what those needs are."
