Tigersharks still strong in meet

Members of the Carson Tigersharks continued to turn in impressive performances on Saturday at the USA Speedo Sectional Championships in San Jose.


Lauren Costella had another tough double, swimming back-to-back events in the 200 freestyle and the 400 individual medley. Costella was able to qualify second in the 400 I.M. in five minutes, 1.15 seconds and then placed fifth in the finals in 5:02.93. Costella qualified for the finals in teh 200 free in 2:10.08 and placed 15th in the finals in 2:10.61.


At 16, Justin Barber was the youngest swimmer to qualify for the men's championship finals. He qualified in 4:40.08 and improved his time to place sixth in the finals in 4:39.77.


Evan Fischer took 11th in the 400 I.M., qualifying in 4:42.76 and finishing in 4:44.83 in the finals. In addition in the 400 I.M., Ryan Hudson finished in 4:57.49, Ryan Costella finished in 5:00.09 and Ryan Theilemann finished in 5:02.09.


In the 200 free, Tara Theilemann placed 34th in a personal best 2:11.99. Ryan Costella finished in a personal best 2:03.06 and Ryan Theilemann finished in a personal best 2:04.91. In the 100 backstroke, Fischer placed 30th in 1:05.63.


The meet concludes today. Fischer will participate in a tough double in the 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly, Lauren Costella and Barber will compete in the 200 fly, Tara Theilemann will compete in the 100 free, Ryan Costella will compete in the 200 fly and 1,500 free and Hudson will compete in the 1,500 free.
