Capitols fall short in final

One out stood between the Carson Capitols and a berth in the finals of the International Travel Baseball World Championships in Winter Haven, Fla., on Sunday.


Instead, Sarasota (Fla.) rallied to score three runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Capitols in the tournament semifinals.


Carson (44-18 this season) finished fourth in the tournament after an 11-1 loss to Orlando (Fla.)later in the day.


In the semifinal, Carson scored twice in the sixth inning to give Jon Troop a 2-0 lead. Troop finished with a five-hitter, but was unable to hold off Sarasota.


Joey Hooft hit 1-for-2 with an RBI single in the sixth for the Capitols. Dustin Pedroia, Bub Madrid and Bake Krukow also had hits. Pedroia and Hooft were named to the all-tournament team.
