Joe McCarthy, executive director of the Brewery Arts Center, turned over a $1,775 check to aid victims of the World Trade Center tragedy at Carson City's Fire Department Wednesday.

Capt. Bob Schreihans, president of the local Fire Fighters Union, and department official, Duane Lemons, accepted the check, proceeds from the Brewery Arts Annual Beer Tasting and Auction in mid-September.

After the Tasting, which followed the attack at New York's World Trade Center, the Brewery's Board decided to go forward with the event and dedicate part of the proceeds to the families of firefighters and police officers who died in the tragedy.

The Carson department fund has collected about $150,000 thus far and keeps growing despite the fact that most major fund-raisers are over.

"People are still bringing us checks," Schreihans said. "Most now are smaller contributions, but it all adds up."

For example, the school children from Lyon County donated their lunch money totaling $150, according to Lemons.

Money for the relief efforts can be dropped off at the Fire Department or deposited at any Wells Fargo Branch, account no. 2001222991. Checks should be made payable to the Carson City Firefighters' Fund for FDNY.
