Gabriel Malanche scored two goals, including the go-ahead shot in the 73rd minute as Dayton High School pulled out a hard-fought 4-2 Northern 3A boys soccer victory at home against Battle Mountain on Friday afternoon.
Malanche's unassisted goal answered two quick goals b y Battle Mountain that had tied the score 2-2 just five minutes before in a game played at Dayton Intermediate School.
Javier Vega added another goal in the 77th minute to supply some insurance as the Dust Devils improved their league record to 7-5-1.
Vega also assisted Miguel Lozada on a goal that gave Dayton a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. Malanche put in his first goal in the 29th minute to make it 2-0.
Dayton outshot Battle Mountain 32-11, thanks to a defensive led by sweeper Jesse Gutierrez. Goalkeeper George Pass was credited with six saves.
In the girls game played earlier, Battle Mountain scored a 9-0 victory against Dayton (1-11).
Spring Creek visits Dayton for another Northern 3A doubleheader today. The girls play at 10 a.m. and the boys at noon at Dayton Intermediate.
