A water main break left six Carson City residents without water for about 2 and a half hours Thursday.
The leak in the 500 block of Adams Street was caused by a water main valve breaking. Six homes in the area were without water from 1:40 p.m. to 4:20 p.m.
City Utility Operations Manger Tom Hoffert said leaks are common around this time of year with changing temperatures. The combination of changing water pressure and ground consistency causes some pipes to break, he said. Hoffert did not know how much water was lost by the break.
The main that broke Thursday is 20 years old and is slated for replacement in the next five years, Hoffert said.
Watering restrictions in the capital are in effect until Sept. 30.
