Manogue defeats Yerington

Bishop Manogue quarterback Alex Bybee threw two touchdown passes and ran for another to help the Miners post a 34-14 Northern 3A football win at Yerington on Friday night.


The Yerington Lions (0-2, 1-2) showed life late by scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns at Martin Field. Matt Galvin's 55-yard kickoff return set up Yerington's first score, a 6-yard touchdown run by Doug Paine with 11:54 left to play. Paine scored from 1 yard out with 33 seconds showing on the clock and Shawn McCarty ran for the PAT to make it 34-14.


Paine finished the game with 63 yards rushing on 15 carries.


Manogue held a 144-91 advantage as a team in rushing yardage. The Miners were led by Nick Bogan with 91 yards on 15 carries.


Bybee threw touchdown passes of 11 and 10 yards to Cody McElroy in the second quarter as the Miners took a 17-0 lead . Bybee also scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter.


Bybee completed 7 of 11 passes (one interception), good for 116 yards. McElroy caught five passes for 90 yards.


In other 3A action, Lowry beat Dayton 40-0 in Winnemucca.
