Teeter leads Cannons baseball

Jon Teeter had six hits to lead the Carson Cannons 18 and under baseball team to a 2-0 start in its own Sierra Slam Tournament on Saturday at Carson High.


Carson opened with a 7-2 win over Bases Loaded and then defeated the Sparks Tribe 14-1. The Cannons will play at 9 a.m. today against the Rebels, then will face the Galena Grizzlies at 11:45 at Carson High.


Teeter had three hits, a double and three RBIs against Sparks. Ryan Henry didn't allow an earned run in picking up the complete game win, striking out eight in five innings.


Also for Carson (13-3-2), Neil Holmes had two doubles and three RBIs, Ryan Gonzalez had two hits and a double, Carl Winter and Jessie Rasner each had two hits, Matt Bowman doubled and Aaron Henry and Tony Texeira each added hits.


CARSON 7, BASES LOADED 2


Teeter and Eric Melendez both had three hits to lead the Cannons to its win over Bases Loaded.


Melendez also retired all six batters he faced and struck out two in the final two innings in relief. Todd Hendrix was the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run over five innings.


Teeter led off the first for Carson with a single and went all the way to third on Bowman's sacrifice bunt. Winter singled home Teeter and Holmes singled home Winter to give Carson a 2-0 lead.


In the second, Jake Rasner walked, Melendez singled, Teeter singled, Bowman stroked an RBI single and Winter was hit by a pitch to force in a run.


Melendez singled, Teeter doubled and Bowman followed with a two-run single to give the Cannons a 6-1 lead in the fourth. In the sixth, Holmes walked, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2. Holmes and Bowman also had two hits for Carson.
