Upton is in third in pro event

Carson City's Lynda Upton is already making a name for herself in her professional career.


Upton is in third place after the first round of the U.S. Challenge Golf Tour's Falcon Dunes Golf Classic being held at Falcon Dunes Golf Club in Arizona. Upton shot a first round 2-over-par 73 after firing a 36 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine.


Toronto's Fareen Samji is in first after firing a 69 and Denish Philbrick of Scottsdale, Ariz. is in second after firing a 71. Upton is tied with Anna Pianalto of Hermosa Beach, Calif., who also fired a 73.


Today's second round will begin at 8 a.m. and the final round will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday. Upton, a Carson High graduate, played for the University of Nevada where she graduated last year.
