Fernley High's Matt Leestma led the Vaqueros to a strong showing in a Northern 3A golf tournament on Friday in Winnemucca.
Leestma placed fifth overall with a 5-over-par 77 to lead Fernley to a fourth place finish as the Vaqueros shot 418. Fernley's Eric Dye was right behind with a 78.
Fernley was just three strokes out of third place as Spring Creek finished with a 415. Lowry won the event with a 395 while North Tahoe placed second with a 398. Yerington was seventh with a 454 and Dayton was eighth with a 473.
Other Lyon County scorers were: Fernley -- Cody Goodsell 81; Ashley Elson 90; Chris Hoffman 92.
Yerington -- Darren Jim 86; Brian Blasco 86; Jahaziel Aguilar 90; Kevin O'Keefe 92; Mike Bassett 100.
