A memorial service for Ven Duel Johnson, 76, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Hall.
Mr. Johnson died April 17, 2002, in Carson City at the home of his son following a long illness. He was born in Cannonville, Utah, Nov. 10, 1925, to Irving Ammon and Daisy Lavetta Campbell Johnson.
Mr. Johnson served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the U.S. Navy during World War II and moved to Hawthorne from Cannonville in 1952, working at the Naval Ammunition Depot until 1970.
He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the American Legion. He loved to construct toys. He played the banjo and guitar and was well known for his singing and entertaining, performing once at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn. He loved to roam the hills of Nevada and to hunt and fish. He was an outdoorsman and knew the back roads and trails of Nevada very well.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Irving Dorr, Dean Ivan, Claren Delane and Daniel Merril; wife of 32 years Pauline; son Vergene Fallis and Pauline's sons Buster and Glen Roberts.
Among his survivors are his brother and sister-in-law Golden Dall and Roxanna Johnson of Cannonville; sisters and brothers-in-law Ardis and Robert Evans of Hatch, Utah, Dixie and Donald Munson of Salt Lake City, sister Jan Larsen of Renton, Wash.; sister and brother-in-law Colette and Edward Liddell of Salt Lake City, and Karel and Gary Robinson of Sparks; daughters and sons-in-law Venice and Todd Tobler of St. George, Utah, Vicky and Dale Andrus of Elko and son Ven DeWayne Johnson of Carson City; grandchildren Trent Tobler, Gina Tobler Hull, TawnaLee Tobler Oliver, Toni Tobler, Lesli Andrus DeLawder, Steven Andrus, Dane Andrus, Aaron Johnson, Affee Johnson, Sara Johnson, Lindy Johnson, Christy Lee Johnson and Kyle Johnson and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and Pauline's children Terry, Laverne, Vickie, Alan, Steven and David.
