Woman released in porn case

A Carson City substitute teacher charged with child pornography was released from jail Monday on her own recognizance.

Jill Fletcher, who was arrested March 20 for allegedly asking an 8-year-old girl to "flash" an Internet camera, was described by her attorney Mike Roth as "fragile" and easily manipulated by people.

The day before her arrest, Fletcher told police she'd received nude photographs of children, but when detectives investigated at her home they discovered the photos originated in her own bedroom, said Scott Burau of the Carson City Sheriff's Department.

Court appointed phsychiatrist Jack Araza outlined eight points for Fletcher to abide by while out of jail and awaiting trial May 23 on one count of child pornography.

Fletcher must stay away from computers, have weekly mental health counseling, have only supervised visits with her five children and not have contact with her husband, Steven Fletcher, sentenced last year to 10 years to life in prison for sexual assault of a child under 14.

"He is just a bad influence on her," Fletcher's mother Eileen Freeman said after court Monday. "She's just weak."

District Attorney Anne Langer approved the psychiatrist's suggestions and didn't argue against Fletcher's release.

"Our concerns are that Jill has an obsession with Mr. Fletcher that does not allow her to sever her relationship," she told the judge, describing Fletcher as borderline schizophrenic. "We agree with all the (doctor's) terms."
