Saturday is the last day to register for the Sept. 3 primary election, but there are a number of ways late-comers can sign up.

The Carson City Clerk's office will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Voters can also register at the Department of Motor Vehicles or pick up an application at the Carson City Library, Sierra Pacific Power Co., or Southwest Gas. The applications can be mailed to the Clerk's Office, but must be post-marked by Aug. 3. The mailing address is on the application.

"People can still register to vote after that date, but only for the general election in November," Chief Elections Clerk Tammy Caldwell said.

She said early voters can cast their ballots at the clerk's office from Aug. 17 through Aug. 30.

According to city clerk officials, the sample ballots will be mailed the week before early voting around Aug. 12, and absentee ballots for the primary election can be requested through Aug. 25.

For an absentee ballot, either send a note or fill out a form at the Clerk's Office, 885 E. Musser St., Carson City.

A few other dates to remember:

-- The registration deadline for the Nov. 5 general election is Oct. 5.

-- Early voting for the general election starts Oct. 19 and runs through Nov. 1.
