Obituary: Louis John 'Luigi' Giomi

Memorial Mass will be said for Louis John "Luigi" Giomi at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community.

Mr. Giomi was born May 21, 1922, in San Francisco to Pietro Ester RZ Giomi. He died at home Aug. 1, 2002 after a long battle with cancer. He was 80.

Mr. Giomi married Elizabeth Murer May 29, 1944 ,in San Francisco. The pair celebrated 58 years of marriage this year.

He was a 25-year resident of Carson City coming from Redwood City, Calif.

Mr. Giomi was the owner and operator of Papa Luigi's Italian Deli in Carson City from 1977 until he retired in 1989. Prior to opening the deli in Carson City, he owned and operated Luigi's Italian Deli in Redwood City from 1967-1977.

He was a past member of the Royal Order of the Moose Lodge, the American Legion and the Redwood City Camilla Society.

He was a Catholic.

Mr. Giomi served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1946 as officer with the military police in Gordon, Ga., where he earned a World War II Victory medal, an American Theater ribbon and a Good Conduct medal.

Among his survivors are his wife, of Carson City; sons and daughters-in-law Stacey and Trish Giomi of Carson City; Richard and Lynn Giomi of Reno; sister Alba M. Pieretti of Redwood City; granddaughters Shawn M. Giomi of Redwood, Keri L. Giomi of Reno and Stephanie M. Giomi of Carson City and grandson Robbie A. Giomi of Carson City.

Capitol City Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
