John Andrew Heimerman, 87, a Yerington resident for the past 18 years, died Aug. 1, 2002, at the Washoe Medical Center in Reno. He was born in Kansas to John P. and Anna Voegeli Heimerman.
He was raised in Kansas near Wichita. He attended high school in Hays, Kan., at St. Joseph's Military Academy, graduating as second lieutenant in the ROTC program.
He married Leona Herman May 6, 1940, in Kansas.
Mr. Heimerman spent six years in food sales, then went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture, spending 30 years working in the San Jose, Calif., office as an inspector and the last 10 years as a supervisor. After retirement, he moved to Nevada where he developed gardening as a hobby. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Dad's Club.
Among his survivors are his wife of 62 years Leona of Yerington; children Ronald and Katherine Ann McCain; sister Georgiana Heimerman; grandsons Christopher, Mark, Scott, and Matthew; granddaughter Amanda and great-grandchildren Bailey and Cameron.
Cremation and private family services were held.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
