The Carson City Raiders Booster Club will hold it annual Christmas Commitment fund-raiser Sunday.
With efforts being focused on four charities, the group has its work cut out for them.
All in one day, the club will collect batteries of all sizes for the Eagle Valley Children's Home; food for Advocates to End Domestic Violence; toys for the Toys for Tots campaign, with proceeds from the event to be used to "adopt" senior citizens at Christmas time.
The fund-raiser will be from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Joe Bob's Hot Springs Road House, 1510 Hot Springs Road. A live auction is set for noon.
"Progressively, we have earned more money each year and been able to fulfill the seniors' needs," Nancie Pitts said. Pitts is treasurer of the club.
"And we've made just enough to be able to get them extras, too, like coffee or tea and cookies."
Pitts said a lot of the credit goes to to growth of the club and the involvement by its members.
"And the generosity of the community," Pitts said. "The community donating to help our cause has been wonderful.
"Our goal this year is to make enough money to adopt even more seniors."
Club member Cleo Costa has crocheted a queen-size "Raiders" Afghan to be auctioned off before the start of the Raiders-Chargers game. The first Afghan she made for the club's annual picnic and membership drive in August went for $275.
"I donated the labor for this Afghan," Costa said. "There's a lot of love worked into it and a few sleepless nights. But I enjoy doing it."
Costa said it took her about three weeks to finish the Afghan, which is made of 16, eight-ounce skeins of gray and black yarn, with the Raiders emblem secured in the center.
"It'll keep someone very warm," she said with a smile.
Other items featured for the live auction are a satin Raiders jacket, a mini-helmet autographed by John Madden and many raffle items to be given away throughout the day.
