It's that time again.
The lines are growing at the U. S. Post Office, and Russ Uemura, supervisor of customer services at the Carson City branch, recommends mailing all Christmas cards and packages by Dec. 19.
After that date, getting those presents to the right address before Christmas could cost more.
"After the 19th, the only service that could guarantee delivery by Dec. 25 would be Express Mail," he said. "Standard mail probably won't make it on time."
For more peace of mind, Uemura recommends Christmas cards and letters be in mailed by Monday or Tuesday.
Debbie Parrish, postmaster at the Minden post office, said foreign countries have different deadlines, but she recommends all foreign mail be posted by Friday, at the latest.
To help with the rush, post office hours have been extended through the holiday season in Carson City, Minden and other areas.
-- The Carson City post office will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
-- The Post Office Express at Kmart in north Carson City will be open during its usual hours, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.
-- The Minden post office has extended its regular hours from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Dec. 21.
-- Both offices will maintain regular hours 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
