Carson linebacker Nick Shine was selected to the Las Vegas Sun's second team all state team. Shine was a first team all league and second team all Northern 4A selection. The 6-foot-2 junior also played tight end and caught two touchdown passes.
"He's a great one-on-one blocker," said coach Shane Quilling. "We averaged almost eight years on the outside Veer and a lot of it was because of him."
Senator running back Chris Kotter, who rushed for 1,317 yards and 17 touchdowns, was an honorable mention pick. Also on the honorable mention list were Douglas quarterback Luke Rippee, who was named the Sierra League's Co-Offensive Player of the Year, and Tiger wide receiver Andy McIntosh, who caught 37 passes for 708 yards and six touchdowns. Galena's Matt Fry earned honorable mention status at linebacker.
State champion McQueen was well represented on the all state teams, with four players on the first team. Lineman Charles Tolbert was named the defensive player of the year. Tight end Mohu Otuafi, defensive back Corey Patin and kicker Clint Stitser were the Lancer's other first team selections.
The Las Vegas Sun's all state team is selected in conjunction with NevadaPrep.com.
