David Arndt Bates, 70, a Carson City resident for the past 37 years, died Dec. 28, 2002, in Carson City. He was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Cambridge, Ohio, to Leroy E. and E. Ruth McLaughlin Bates.
Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Las Vegas.
Mr. Bates owned AAMCO Transmissions in Carson City from 1979 until his retirement in 1990. He also worked in the gaming industry in Las Vegas and Carson City.
As a young man, he was a jockey for thoroughbred horse racing in the Midwest, Southwest and in Mexico from 1946 until 1953. He was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert, in 2000.
Among his survivors are his wife of 40 years, June; sons Robin of Gardnerville and Brian of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no services.
Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
