School board members don't often get the chance to just sit back and talk. In fact, open-meeting laws prohibit it.
But trustees will have an opportunity today to discuss issues ranging from their personal educational philosophies and goals to ways to manage the growth in Carson City and in the schools during the annual board retreat.
"When you get into board meetings, there really isn't the opportunity for open dialog and discussion," said Superintendent Mary Pierczynski. "That's what they'll have the chance to do."
One of the topics of discussion will be the future of the modular buildings at Bordewich-Bray Elementary School which contain various forms of toxic mold within the walls.
"It's really a time for us to go over some major issues that are facing us," Pierczynski said. "It's a little bit more informal."
Board members and district officials will hold the retreat at 8:30 a.m. in the board room of the school district office.
No official decisions will be made during the meeting, but it is open to the public.
