A free, 2-hour, introduction to cross country skiing will be offered Sunday at Donner Memorial State Park, weather permitting. The tour will be led by park rangers with the California State Park System.
Donner Memorial State Park is located at the east edge of Donner Lake, just west of Truckee, Calif., about 45 miles from Carson City.
Meet at 10 a.m. at the Emigrant Trail Museum parking lot.
The degree of difficulty is rated as "easy."
Basic cross country techniques: gliding, stopping, turning, falling. Also, basic winter survival and a ski trek around the park.
Cross country skis only -- no snowshoes.
Participants are requested to bring their own cross country ski equipment (no snowshoes), snacks, drinks and to wear layered clothing for variable weather conditions.
